DORIS DECKER
My vision of life: to gain freedom!
MY PHILOSOPHY:
For me, Gestalt therapy is more than a method, a tool.
It has basically become my attitude to life.
Becoming aware – that’s where it starts. Recognising myself, how I function, why I function in this way, which “unfinished gestalts” have led me to certain behaviours and mechanisms.
This principle applies on a small scale as well as on a large scale, because I work a lot with traumatised people who not only want to learn to
to live with their trauma, but are also looking for healing.
Nevertheless, the path remains the same – and unique – for every human being:
how am I? Why am I like this? How can I free myself from patterns by understanding and integrating them? How can I “become” myself?
As a Gestalt therapist, I use my own spirit of inquiry and a profound wealth of experience, both personally and in dealing with my clients. I have no interest in judging, I want to explore and discover – mechanisms, truths – in a way that suits my client, because I see myself as accompanying my client.
Every person needs their own path and thus even their own form of therapeutic work.
My very own philosophy is oriented towards freedom. The freedom that arises from consciousness and which can be integrated into the big picture. I can live with self-responsibility, no matter how my story was and is; I can see that it is a miracle that we are here, that we exist, a miracle that we exist in all our mysterious ways.
I am convinced that the reverence for the miracle can outweigh the horror of what we can become out of fear and narrowness.
MY PATH:
I was born in South Africa, but grew up in Germany.
Armed with the desire to understand myself, I first trained as an actor in Ulm and Berlin (finished in 1995). For a while, I worked in the independent theatre scene in several cities in Germany and also gained some experience abroad (which included hitchhiking in South Australia…).
However, I was always looking for something more, as the theatre in its classical form seemed to me to be beautiful, but not completely fulfilling. Through improvisational theatre, I finally came to Gestalt therapy, which revealed to me what I was missing: working with what lies beneath everything we express and experience.
This therapeutic work fulfilled me deeply and still does today.
The background of my work is my acting education (completed in 1995) and Gestalt therapy training at the Gestalt Institute in Frankfurt (completed in 2010).
Today I have 2 mainstays:
gestalt therapy work with individual clients, couples and groups. And teaching improvisational theatre in every form, be it courses or workshops, whereby I of course continue to act myself.
If you are interested in Gestalt therapy as an individual or as a couple, please contact me at: gestalttheater@doris-decker.de or by phone at 017661241948.
I offer Gestalt therapy guidance both live in our centre in Q1, 15 and online.
